Program Highlights
The program uses a psychoeducational approach to Judith Herman’s Tri-Phasic Model of Trauma Recovery: Phase 1 – Safety and Stabilization, Phase 2 – Remembrance and Mourning, and Phase 3 – Reconnection and Integration. It is not a therapeutic workshop. It is designed to give participants basic language and understanding of trauma recovery.

Following trauma competent guidelines, the workshop uses a slower pace, breaking up trauma teachings with expressive arts and, when posibale land-based activities that promote wellness. Each day opens and closes with talking circles so participants can process their thoughts and feelings about the workshop. Each day also offers experiential grounding exercises that help participants stay present and practice new safety skills.

Using the bio-psycho-social model of understanding addiction, this workshop outlines the relationship between trauma and addiction.

To normalize and validate participants’ experiences with trauma and addiction. And how the intergenerational experience contributes to these factors. The workshop includes the oral tradition of storytelling and humor. No PowerPoints or technology are used. Workshops are customized to participants needs and presented in their own words.

Participants will gain a sense of purpose and meaning that they can carry into all areas of their lives. This creates a language for the experience of trauma and addiction.
